Welcome to The Sam Houghton Mountain Bike Challenge
The Challenge is a timed mountain bike ride starting and finishing at the Mill Yard, Staveley and covering the Longsleddale, Kentmere & Troutbeck Valleys and taking in Garburn Pass. It is organised in memory of Sam Houghton, a keen mountain biker who sadly lost his battle against cancer and died aged only 22 in May 2006. All proceeds from this event will be donated to Cancer Research UK.
The current government guidance on social distancing could impact this year’s Sam Houghton Mountain Bike Challenge if still in force on 13th June.
As things stand, we plan to go ahead with the event on 13th June and you can continue to order T-Shirts as normal!
We will of course continue to monitor the situation and the government advice come June. If restrictions still apply our intention would be to re-schedule the event for later in the year (rather than cancelling the event outright).
Due to the uncertainty, we have amended our entry system slightly so that we will not take payment for new entries at this time, however you can still reserve your place for the event via the 'Waiting List' on the SI Entries system. When we have confirmed that the event can go ahead, we will get in touch with you to finalise details.
Any entries already booked and paid for will remain valid for the event, including if it is rescheduled. If the event is rescheduled and you are unable to participate a refund will be available at that time.
To reiterate though, as things stand, we plan to go ahead with the event on 13th June.
Thanks for everyone's understanding at this challenging time. Please stay safe, look after one another and make sure to give your mates a 2m head-start when out on your bikes!

A massive thank you to everyone who has ever ridden the event, stood in the rain/sunshine marshalling, sponsored a rider, baked a cake, bought a raffle ticket, donated a prize, drunk a pint of Mud Sweat & Gears or lent their support in any way at all; this wouldn't have been possible without each and every one of you!
